Chapter 9 addresses sex, sexuality, and romance among adolescence. As discussed in this chapter, one of the transitions from adolescence to adulthood includes engaging in sexual relationships. Because these young people are inexperienced, they appeal to friends, peers, and television to learn about sex.
For this assignment, watch the independent short film, “Wet Dreams”, and address the following in an organized essay format:

or can you answer the question this way: As a future adolescent psychologist, how would you help adolescents explore sex, sexuality, and love?
Sex, Sexuality, and Love among Adolescents
When teenagers transition to adulthood, they may begin to experiment with sexual behaviors by either appealing to their friends or using online sources such as media to learn about sex. Such urges are normal during this stage of development, but the uptake of wrong information can adversely affect adolescents’ perception of sex, sexuality, and love. Therefore, as a future adolescent psychologist, I would mitigate these adversities and help adolescents explore the three aspects by using short films such as “Wet Dreams” to demonstrate to them what sexuality, love, and sex entail.
Talking openly about sex, sexuality, and love can sometimes be uncomfortable; however, as an adolescent psychologist, I would use the short film “Wet Dreams” to help adolescents explore and understand the three critical aspects. Most notably, I would use the experiences of the film characters to enlighten adolescents about what sex entails, the concept of sexuality, and love. For example, adolescents have the misconception that one’s partner should be adequately knowledgeable about what the other requires during an intimate encounter, as demonstrated in the film. However, I would use this information to enlighten adolescents about the importance of communication and the equal role that each partner plays in such encounters.
Furthermore, I would use the film to enlighten adolescents and clear any misconceptions about the concept of sexuality and love. As seen in the film, some adolescents may be identified as male or female based on their physical traits. However, I would proceed further to enlighten this group that sex is not the ultimate determinant of a person’s identity. Besides a person’s sex, their sexual orientation, or the gender to whom they are attracted also defines who they are. Therefore, a male person may not necessarily love a person of the opposite sex; instead, the former may be sexually attracted to people of the same sex.
In summary, short films such as “Wet Dreams” would be ideal in teaching adolescents about sex, sexuality, and love. Most notably, I would use the film to teach adolescents about the importance of communication and the role of each partner in a sexual encounter. Furthermore, I would help the group explore the concept of sexuality and love by referencing the experiences of the film’s characters.
