New and emerging technologies for patient care
If technology tools such as electronic medical records, telemedicine and remote monitoring become more widely used within nursing practice, it could have a positive impact on both patient care and overall efficiency. Electronic medical records can help streamline data sharing between healthcare providers which allows for better coordination of care across multiple disciplines. Telemedicine has the potential to improve access to care by eliminating barriers such as transportation or distance while providing patients with a more convenient way to receive treatment from their primary care provider. Remote monitoring devices can also be beneficial by providing caregivers with real-time insights into the health status of their patients, allowing them to make timely interventions if needed.
Despite the potential benefits that these technologies offer, there remain some barriers preventing increased usage among nurses. These include cost restraints, lack of technological infrastructure in certain areas and privacy concerns related to data storage. Additionally, many nurse practitioners may not feel comfortable utilizing unfamiliar technologies due to lack of training or knowledge about how they operate which contributes further towards decreased utilization rates.
In order for technology tools such as those mentioned above to truly become integrated into nursing practice on a larger scale, it is essential that these barriers are addressed so that all members of society can benefit from improved healthcare services.
