Week 6 assignment: show you care
Kantian Deontology: Kantian deontology is based on the principle that individuals should always act in accordance with their duties, regardless of any external factors. When developing guidelines using this philosophy, we would need to identify what might be considered universal duties for nurses and ensure that any decisions taken by them uphold these moral obligations.
Ethical Egoism: According to ethical egoism, an individual should do whatever is in their own self-interest as long as it does not harm others. When creating guidelines using this philosophy, we would need to take into account the interests of patients while also considering how certain actions could benefit nurses personally in terms of career advancement or financial gain.
Social Contract Ethics: Social contract ethics states that individuals are bound by an agreement with society to adhere to certain rules and regulations designed to protect everyone’s rights and freedoms. Thus, when developing guidelines using this approach, we would need to create policies that respect patients’ rights while also taking into consideration what would be expected from nurses within a particular healthcare setting in terms of ethical conduct.
