In that both the research and evidence-based practice (EBP), processes are similar, they all involve systematic methods of problem-solving. They also require the gathering and evaluation of evidence to inform decisions. There are some important differences among these processes.
The main similarity between EBP, research, and nursing processes is the fact that all of them involve the identification and analysis of a problem, or question. The research process may include the collection of data or conducting experiments to prove a hypothesis. It may also involve reviewing all available literature to find the most appropriate course of action for particular patients or populations. It may also involve collecting data on a patient’s medical history and reviewing it in order to create a care plan.
