American Academy of Nursing’s (AAN), is a non-profit organization that promotes healthcare science, practice and research on behalf of nurses and the public. It achieves this through operational excellence and exceptional nurse leadership capabilities. Academy Fellows are nurses who have expertise in leadership, clinical practice, research and administration. These include hospital chief executives, CEOs of hospitals, consultants, business owners and state and federal officials as well as researchers.
Academy Fellows are expected to dedicate their energy and time to helping the organization. The American Academy of Nursing (2015) states that they promote productive aging to ensure the continuation of human life. Nurses may advocate for policies to eliminate injustice and healthcare disparities through their leadership skills. Nursing professionals who integrate the mental and physical aspects of health are key to creating healthy surroundings. These responsibilities allow nurses to promote healthcare delivery and health on both a local and global scale.
Special concerns within the community are addressed by healthcare policies. Nurses have the responsibility of ensuring that there are new ideals established on a regular basis. New ideas need to address issues that impact the community as well as the nurses’ professions (American Academy of Nursing (2015)). Many dynamics are involved in the development of the profession, including interdependence between the different nursing disciplines and the relationship among nurses.
