Project search is a project in Coffee County that aims at increasing the employment rates of persons with intellectual or developmental disabilities. The Americans with Disabilities Act bans discrimination in the workplace against persons with disabilities. However, these individuals have maintained relatively stable employment rates for many years. There is evidence that many individuals with developmental or intellectual impairments don’t understand the ADA and some companies still hold negative attitudes towards disabled people. Project search’s goal is to help individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities improve their job skills, their employment rates and their quality of living. This includes improving employer attitudes towards these people and their collaboration.
