Many sociologists have focused on sociological topics such as symbol consumption, technology and political activity. This has contributed to the development of new sociological ideas. Postmodernism sociologists have shifted their focus to the group of metatheoretical and theoretical methods that examine postmodernity through social-cultural perspectives, while also including postcapitalist aspects. (Denzin, 1986). The theory’s specific ideas switched from modernism towards postmodernism due to rapid cultural development and enculturation in the 1980s. Even though some academics believe that postmodernism is not real, empirical investigation shows it to be a part of our social fabric. This, despite the fact that its symbols and identities vary from one location to another.
The postmodernist sociological theory claims that history has an influence on the development and occurrences of societies. Contrary to popular capitalist beliefs, the promise for a better future in postmodern times is not possible due to the complexity of the world and its unpredictability. Scientific trials have a postmodern goal of empowering people with more resources rather than uncovering information or truths that could make the world a better place. Nuclear weapons, for example, are far more advanced than treatments for cancer.
Postmodernism is a sociological critique of modernist sociological theory. It studies late capitalism’s cultural and social lures. According to postmodernists, postmodernism refers to a society in which social media and electronic communication play an important role in cultural diffusion. This results in social fractures and broad social rules. Theorists use these traits to emphasise the impact of the postmodern sociological theories and modernity as a product.
The postmodern social theories offers many advantages over the previous characteristics. It advocates and provides a framework for the integration of many truths into evidence-based social practice. This opposes the scenario in which one theory is challenged by another. These constraints limit practitioners’ commercial activities. Controlled development is restricted and punished by these rules. Postmodernism tries to counter such control (Nowotny 2018, 2018). Postmodernism also integrates, rather than modernism. This theory demonstrates that logic and intuition can be fundamental concepts which help scholars to define truth. Postmodernism social theorists have attempted to understand the growing influence of media in our society, while also criticizing old social scientists’ social policy narratives such as Marxism and functionalism.
