This case involves an African American woman with anxiety who lost her husband and is now living in a marital home. The client sought support from a social worker to address her anxiety. Her husband left her because she was unable to manage domestic chores like cleaning the house.
Ability to think on your own
Five strategies are used in our case study to conduct motivational interviews. This includes Summarization and Reflective Listening.
Skill in answering open-ended questions
It was obvious when I asked the client open ended questions in order to gather his views and opinions on what had caused his anxiousness (Galal (2018). I specifically asked open-ended questions such as “Do you know the reason your spouse quit?” What does this make you feel? To gather information on the client’s current issue, among other things.
As a counselor, I helped the client to clarify a difficult time in her life. The client was very proud to have a degree in social work. She also stated that the program she was taking meant she couldn’t complete her household chores.
Reflecting listening skills. This ability also allowed me to evaluate my listening ability. To fully understand the position of my client, I try to think about her words. For example, I tried to understand the meaning of my client by listening.
Sympathy
It was also my goal to get to know the clients’ feelings. Trust and a deeper connection are made possible by empathy. To understand the customer’s feelings and emotions, I tried to listen.
Diversity
The two elements of diversity in this case are marital status and race. Particularly, I and the client have different cultural and racial backgrounds. The spouse was also married to the client before she left her marital home. The client is currently single and experiences anxiety. My emotional interviewing methods were varied. In particular, because of the client’s cultural or racial background, my goal was to listen and understand her emotions, and to respect her views. Because I respected my client’s culture and her emotions, I was anti-racist. Because I could not understand her native tongue, I talked to her in English.
Trauma-focused Care
My client suffers from anxiety and depression. Due to her husband’s divorce, the customer is suffering from anxiety. She is also becoming increasingly distant from her husband and their child. He has a very bad relationship with his children and spouse. To meet his growing needs, I utilized trauma-focused therapy in two different ways (Artime and al., 2002). The first was to understand the effects of her worry on her mental well-being. To understand her needs and develop strategies for helping her get better, I built a trusting relationship with her.
