Women age and menopause happens at some point in their lives. It can be defined as “the permanent cessation of menses for 12 months resulting from estrogen deficiency” (Peacock & Ketvertis, 2020). Menopause occurs when women are in their 50s and 40s. The average American age is 51 according to Mayo Clinic 2020. Women experience menopause in a very different way. Menopause can last several years for some women. There are two phases: menopause, perimenopause, and it can last for years. (Brazier 2020). Perimenopause is the transition before menopause starts. Also included are the 12 months after one’s last period. You will enter menopause 12 months after your last period. After the previous period ends, menopause is over. It can be as difficult to determine when this stage begins or ends as it is menopause.
Sometimes, menopause can also be inducible surgically. Menstruation may need to be stopped for medical reasons. The surgical woman’s pause is also known. It is the procedure of removing and replacing the ovaries. (Nwadike, 2020). One can have their menses, even when they’re not having them. Also, stress can prevent your body from eliminating their ovaries. Menopause symptoms may look similar to stress symptoms (Illades 2012). Menopause can be caused by stress, but not just because of it.
As women approach menopause, they are more likely to feel different signs and symptoms. One of the symptoms is lower fertility. The estrogen level of a woman who reaches menopause drops. As a result, her chances of becoming pregnant decrease. Another sign are irregular periods. An irregular period is a sign that a woman is near her menopause. However, this is not true for all women. As women get closer to menopause, some women experience more frequent periods. Some men may feel more heavy than others while some women experience lighter periods. Women approaching menopause may also experience vaginal dryness and discomfort. You may also experience itching. Women can experience hot flashes as well. Brazier 2020 states that hot flashes can also occur in women. Skin reddening and sweating may be caused by hot flashes. Not all hot flashes result in reddening of the skin and sweating. Women may also experience cold flashes. Women may experience sleep problems as they go through menopause. You may experience night sweats, anxiety or both. Many women will experience physical, mental, and cognitive changes at this point. Depression, mood swings and irritability are some of the most common emotions. Breast tenderness can occur in some women, as well as weight loss, breast tenderness and increased urinary urgency. The color and texture of hair can also alter. Some cognitive effects that women might experience include mild memory loss, verbal fluency impairment, and subtle memory loss (Devere 2019).
