The three types of welfare states are the Liberal, Conservative and Social Democratic models. The liberal model is mainly found in countries such as the United States and Canada where it focuses more on providing benefits to individuals in need rather than attempting to reduce inequality within society. The conservative model is primarily found in countries like Germany, Japan and France which place a greater emphasis on providing assistance for specific groups or segments of the population while at the same time not necessarily aiming to reduce poverty. Lastly, the social democratic model is usually applied by Scandinavian countries like Sweden who believe that access to health care, education and other services should be universal regardless of one’s income level.

Denmark has the highest percentage of social spending when compared with other nations at an impressive 39%. This figure reflects Denmark’s commitment to their citizens’ wellbeing by ensuring that they have access to necessary services without having to worry about any associated costs.
