For example, if insurance companies are not providing enough compensation for specialty services then it may lead physicians to limit their practice or close their offices altogether resulting in fewer options available for patients seeking those particular treatments. Additionally, policy makers must consider how cost-sharing measures such as deductibles and copayments might affect patients’ willingness to seek care due to financial concerns.

The component of this policy area which could be improved in order to provide better care or outcomes is its focus on value-based pricing rather than volume-based prices.
