Week 2 discussion | Nursing homework help
My experience with healthcare information systems has been both positive and negative. While I appreciate the convenience of electronic records that can be accessed anywhere, the complexity of these systems have made them difficult to use at times. Overall, it was an easy transition, as many of my colleagues already had some experience with health care information systems and could provide assistance when needed.
The major benefit I’ve experienced is the speed and accuracy of obtaining a patient’s medical history or other pertinent data. Having access to a large amount of patient data in one place has allowed me to make more informed decisions about their treatment plan. Additionally, being able to send out lab results electronically or fill out forms online has saved time from having to wait weeks for them in the mail.
However, there are drawbacks such as the cost and security issues associated with this system. There is also a set-up process for each new user which can be quite lengthy and tedious depending on your past experiences with computers and software programs. Furthermore, if something goes wrong in updating patient information on these systems due to technical difficulties or human error it can cause serious problems down the line for patients’ treatment plans if left unnoticed by clinicians or administrators alike.
The medical record exposure I received while studying nursing school shed light on how important proper documentation is when caring for patients as well how vital health care information systems are becoming in today’s world . With this knowledge under my belt ,I am better prepared should I ever enter into a healthcare setting again professionally
