Legislation comparison grid and testimony/advocacy statement
I believe that providing mothers with expanded access to education, counseling, and medication assistance will help them better understand and manage the common mental health issues they may experience after giving birth while also reducing stigma around seeking help. Furthermore, it will also benefit both the mother and her baby’s overall wellbeing by improving bonding and attachment between them.
To those who oppose this bill, I would point out that many states already provide similar services through Medicaid or other means so this is not an unprecedented move but rather one that has been proven effective in other areas. Additionally, I would also argue that any potential costs associated with expanding coverage are far outweighed by the long-term benefits for both mother and baby.
