Assignment: practicum – journal entry
The theory of Caring by Jean Watson is one that I use to guide my clinical practice. This theory seeks to provide a holistic approach to patient care and focuses on the healing power of caring which is achieved through providing emotional support as well as physical comfort. It also emphasizes the importance of fostering a therapeutic relationship between nurse and patient which in turn helps create an environment where patients can feel safe and secure.
I believe this perspective aligns well with feminist thought because it places emphasis on respect, autonomy, and dignity while recognizing how social structures such as gender or race impact healthcare outcomes. Additionally, this model recognizes the importance of self-care for both nurses and patients which can help reduce burnout rates among healthcare professionals while also improving overall health outcomes for those involved. Ultimately utilizing this theory in my practice allows me to provide quality care that takes into account each individual’s needs thus helping to ensure optimal health outcomes for all parties involved.
