Iom report on nursing education
The Institute of Medicine (IOM) report focused on the future of nursing has had a significant impact on nursing practice, particularly in primary care. The IOM identified several areas where nurses can have a greater role in improving patient outcomes and providing high quality care such as expanding access to services by utilizing technology or developing new models for delivering health services.
In my own practice of nursing, I would use these recommendations to change my approach to primary care. This could include doing more telehealth visits with patients utilizing electronic systems or using social media platforms to provide education and support. Additionally, I could work with other healthcare professionals to develop better evidence-based protocols for treating certain conditions while also taking into account the individual needs of each patient. Ultimately these strategies will help ensure that nurses are able to meet the goals outlined by the IOM thus enabling them to continue making an impact in both healthcare delivery and patient outcomes.
