The survey that I plan to use in my project is the Parent-Child Relationship Quality Scale (PCRQS). This instrument consists of 30 items which are answered on a four-point Likert scale ranging from “strongly disagree” to “strongly agree.” The PCRQS measures both positive and negative relationships between parents and their children, with higher scores indicating more harmonious bonds. The total score can range from 0 to 120, with higher numbers representing better quality relationships.
The PCRQS covers a variety of topics such as parental supportiveness, communication styles, conflict resolution strategies, affectionate behavior, trustworthiness and respectfulness—all of which are important factors for determining how well parents and their offspring interact with one another. By taking this survey—I will be able to gain a more comprehensive understanding of an individual’s parent-child relationship dynamics so I can provide tailored advice or intervention if necessary.
