The sample for this study was composed of 180 undergraduate students enrolled in a psychology course at a university in the United States. These students were divided into two equal groups: one that received feedback from peers, and one that did not receive any peer feedback. Sample attributes included gender (male/female), age (18-25 years old), ethnicity (White, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, Asian or Pacific Islander) and major (psychology or non-psychology). All participants were asked to complete pre- and post-test surveys regarding their academic performance before and after receiving peer feedback.
Through this research design, the researchers hoped to gain a better understanding of how student performance changes when they are given constructive criticism from those around them – which could ultimately lead to improvements in teaching strategies used by instructors in order to ensure optimal learning outcomes for all students.
