To help my peer better address the preventive guidelines for the women in scenarios 1 and 2, I learned from my experience with motivational interviewing this week that it is important to focus on empowering patients to make their own decisions regarding their health and to provide guidance that is non-judgemental and encourages them to find their own motivation to explore her own values, beliefs, and choice which is essential in motivating change.

Scenario 2

In the second scenario, a 44 year old woman was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. She has had a biopsy taken and is awaiting results. The purpose of this discussion is to apply the technique of motivational interviewing with the female in the scenario. Positively influencing her as an Advanced Practice Nurse (APRN) will be discussed and my experience with motivational interviewing will be described.
