Finance assignment 3: presenting the budget
New York City’s fastest-growing category of expenditures during the planning period is health and social services. This area has seen an overall increase in spending due to a variety of factors including a growing population, an aging population requiring more healthcare services, as well as new initiatives aimed at increasing access to care for underserved populations. Additionally, rising costs associated with prescription drugs have further contributed to this growth. Inflationary pressures on wages and benefits have also been a factor in pushing up expenses over this time period.
In order to manage these costs, various strategies are being implemented such as improving the efficiency of service delivery through investments in technology, introducing cost containment measures at hospitals and clinics, encouraging preventative care initiatives, and reducing administrative burden by streamlining paperwork processes. It is anticipated that if these efforts are successful then spending within this sector should start to stabilize or even reduce over the coming years resulting in improved economic outcomes for New York City residents.
