People of chinese heritage. people of guatemalan heritage.
The Chinese and Guatemalan people have different health care beliefs that are shaped by their respective cultural backgrounds. In Chinese culture, traditional medicine is often favored and seen as the preferred method of healing due to its long history and reputation for effectiveness. Herbal remedies are commonly used in combination with acupuncture and other forms of practice such as qigong; this approach is oftentimes employed not only for treating illness but also for maintaining good health through preventative measures (Guth et al., 2019). On the other hand, Guatemala largely adheres to Western medical tradition which relies heavily on pharmaceuticals for both acute and chronic conditions. This difference can be attributed to colonization whereby Spanish conquistadors brought with them much of what we currently recognize today as modern medicine (Borda et al., 2015). Despite these discrepancies, however, there is one commonality between the two cultures which pertains to mental health: both view psychological issues as spiritual ailments in need of resolution from a “higher power” or deity rather than purely biological problems (Guth et al., 2019). This shared belief could potentially serve useful when developing strategies for outreach into either population since it may provide common ground upon which further conversations regarding healthcare can be had thus allowing providers more opportunities educate potential patients about available treatments options slowly bridge gap between traditional Eastern practices Western ones over time .
