Nurses might lobby Congress and/or become involved in campaign politics for a variety of reasons; this could include pushing for changes to healthcare policy such as advocating for increased funding or improved regulations related to patient care. Additionally, nurses may also work to address issues surrounding nurse staffing levels or wages in order to ensure that their profession is adequately compensated and respected. Strategies used by nurses can vary depending on the goals at hand but some common approaches involve reaching out directly to representatives via phone calls or emails, writing letters, organizing protests, and fundraising.

In addition to traditional methods of advocacy, more recently there has been an uptick in nurses using social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook as a way of amplifying their voices when it comes to addressing important topics within the industry. Ultimately no matter what strategies are employed, it is clear that nurses have the ability to make meaningful change when they work together towards a common goal which makes being politically active essential if we want our profession’s concerns heard by those with decision-making power.
