In this area, there are a variety of medical facilities including doctor offices, urgent care centers, and hospitals. While I cannot comment on the exact composition of physician staffs in each facility, I can say that there is evidence that physicians generally reflect the ethnic background of the population. According to a recent study conducted by the American Medical Association Journal of Ethics, physician representation from underrepresented racial and ethnic backgrounds has increased in recent years. For example, between 2002 and 2015 the percentage of Black or African-American doctors rose from 4.2% to 8%; similarly, Mexican-American doctor levels increased from 5% to 7%. This data suggests that healthcare providers are becoming more diverse and better reflecting their local populations. However, there is still work to be done in order for all areas to achieve true representative parity among their providers as gaps remain due to disparities in educational opportunities across different racial/ethnic groups.
