A specific cultural norm that comes to mind is courtesy bows among the Japanese which can be used when greeting someone or expressing gratitude. This gesture involves bending slightly at the waist while placing palms together in front of one’s face as a sign of respect; this custom has been around since ancient times and although it is no longer required it remains largely part of traditional culture today due its historical significance.
