Introduction to advanced nursing practice
elderly population, especially those who are low-income, have chronic health conditions, or belong to minority groups. This population is at risk of experiencing poorer health outcomes due to factors such as limited access to healthcare, social isolation, lack of transportation, and inadequate housing.
As a geriatric nurse practitioner, my particular specialty can contribute to health promotion and disease prevention for the elderly population in several ways. For example, I can provide comprehensive assessments and screenings to identify health risks, manage chronic conditions, and promote healthy behaviors. I can also collaborate with other healthcare professionals and community resources to provide coordinated and culturally sensitive care.
Issues of diversity and global perspectives of care are essential for understanding health equity as it relates to this population. It is important to recognize the unique needs and challenges of different cultural and ethnic groups, as well as to consider the impact of social determinants of health such as poverty, education, and access to resources. By taking a global perspective, I can identify best practices and innovative approaches to care that can improve health outcomes and reduce disparities for the elderly population.
