Quantitative and qualitative research in clinical settings | NURS 8200 – Methods for Evidence-Based Practice | Walden University
When attempting to address any evidence-based practice problems, it is often best to utilize either quantitative or qualitative research as both offer distinct advantages. Quantitative research involves the collection of numerical data which can be used for objective analysis & comparisons . This type of approach is ideal for determining correlations between different variables and making predictions based on the results.
Conversely, qualitative research focuses more on collecting subjective information in order to gain a deeper understanding of certain phenomena. By utilizing semi-structured interviews , focus groups &observations one can gain greater insight into things like values, beliefs, attitudes & motivations while forming potential hypotheses which then need to be tested further.
Overall , both types of research have important roles when it comes to addressing evidence-based practice problems! With quantitative approaches enabling researchers to make clear connections between different variables and qualitative allowing them to better comprehend why these relationships exist – choosing the most appropriate method will ultimately depend on the nature of the problem at hand
