Research Problem: The research problem addressed in this study was to examine the role gender & generational differences play when it comes to helping individuals seeking treatment for mental health issues .
Purpose Statement: The purpose of this study was to explore how gender & generational differences affect help-seeking intentions when dealing with psychological distress through a survey based approach using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM).
Initial Hypotheses : It was hypothesized that younger people would be more likely to seek help due to increased awareness while women would report higher levels of help-seeking intentions compared to men.
Study Design : This study utilized an online survey which collected data from over 500 participants across two different age groups – millenials (aged 18-34) and Generation Xers (35-50 ). Data was analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling in order to test the various hypotheses. < br>< br > Results : The results showed that both younger age and female gender significantly predicted greater intent for seeking professional help compared to their counterparts , thus suggesting that there is indeed a difference in terms of help – seeking behavior between these two demographics
