Person Paradigm – This paradigm focuses on the individual as an active agent in their own health care. It recognizes that an individual has personal values and beliefs that shape their behavior and must be taken into consideration when providing care. The nurse should strive to understand each person’s unique needs in order to provide more customized care.
Nursing Paradigm – This paradigm focuses on the role of nurses in providing care for individuals or groups in all levels (physical, psychological, spiritual). It emphasizes that nurses need to be knowledgeable about human anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, psychology and sociology while recognizing how they can use these skills in combination with their clinical assessment skills to provide appropriate interventions tailored to each patient or group’s specific needs.
Health Paradigm – This paradigm focuses on promoting health instead of just treating illness. Nurses need to recognize the various factors (such as socioeconomic status) which contribute towards health outcomes so they can develop strategies which address any underlying causes leading up to illnesses.
Environment Paradigm – This paradigm focuses on understanding how social structures impact an individual’s ability to achieve optimal health. It emphasizes assessing one’s physical environment such as housing conditions or access to proper nutrition resources; cultural influences like language barriers; economic factors like employment opportunities; political aspects such as access healthcare services; legal considerations such as immigration policies; etc., all while considering how they might moderate one\’s capacity for successful self-care management
