Yes, it was reasonable for Facebook to initially ignore a segment of its market when MySpace was so big and Facebook so small. When Facebook first began, its user base was limited to college students and users were required to have a valid university email address in order to join. This created an exclusive “club” atmosphere that improved customer satisfaction among users while also helping the company differentiate itself from MySpace which had become overly cluttered with ads & spam.
Furthermore by focusing on a particular demographic initially; Facebook enabled them better cater their offerings according to specific needs thus increasing overall customer satisfaction levels. Moreover such approaches allowed them build trust over time as well as gain valuable insight into its target audience going forward.
