The positive symptoms of schizophrenia include delusions, hallucinations, disorganized thinking or speech, and grossly disorganized behavior. In the case study patient’s case, she was described as having persistent delusions that she was being followed by the police and monitored by hidden cameras in her apartment. She also experienced auditory hallucinations such as voices telling her to do things or commenting on her behavior which can be a common symptom of schizophrenia. Additionally, the patient exhibited disorganized thinking with difficulty concentrating and staying focused on tasks as well as grossly disorganized behavior with little regard for personal hygiene or self-care routines.
These symptoms are all consistent with those typically seen in individuals suffering from this mental illness which suggests that it is likely what she is actually experiencing instead of any other condition. It is therefore important for healthcare professionals to recognize these signs so they can provide timely treatment and support for their patients who may be struggling with this disorder.
