The selected nursing theory for this assignment is the Comfort Theory developed by Katharine Kolcaba. The article chosen for this assignment is “Effectiveness of Comfort Care Training Program for Home Health Aides” by Geller, Rochon, and Martin-McDonald, published in Home Health Care Management & Practice in 2021. The study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a comfort care training program based on Kolcaba’s Comfort Theory for home health aides. The study used a pre-post test design, and the sample consisted of 54 home health aides who completed the training program. The study found that the comfort care training program significantly increased the comfort care scores of the home health aides, indicating a positive effect of the training program.
Kolcaba’s Comfort Theory focuses on providing comfort to patients as a means of enhancing their healing process. The theory posits that comfort is a holistic, multifaceted concept that comprises physical, psychospiritual, and social aspects. The study by Geller et al. applies the Comfort Theory to develop a training program aimed at enhancing the comfort care skills of home health aides. The study provides evidence that the training program based on the Comfort Theory is effective in enhancing the comfort care skills of home health aides, thereby improving the quality of care provided to patients. The study demonstrates the practical application of the Comfort Theory in nursing practice and the potential for using nursing theories to improve the quality of care.
