WEEK 1:
During week 1, I achieved the weekly objectives by differentiating between qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods designs. I also learned how to appraise the quality of qualitative research studies. I gained a deeper understanding of the importance of reflexivity and rigor in qualitative research, and how these elements can impact the validity and credibility of the findings. This week’s activities changed my perspective on qualitative research and its relevance to practice. I now understand how qualitative research can provide valuable insights into patient experiences and perspectives, which can inform clinical decision-making and improve patient outcomes. This skill will improve my effectiveness as a practice scholar by allowing me to critically appraise and integrate qualitative research into my practice.
WEEK 2:
During week 2, I achieved the weekly objectives by appraising the quality of quantitative research studies. I learned how to critically evaluate the internal and external validity of studies, and how to assess the relevance of statistical analyses to the research question. I gained a better understanding of the importance of sample size and statistical power, as well as the limitations of statistical significance testing. This week’s activities changed my perspective on quantitative research and its relevance to practice. I now understand how quantitative research can provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of interventions and treatments, which can inform clinical decision-making and improve patient outcomes. This skill will improve my effectiveness as a practice scholar by allowing me to critically appraise and integrate quantitative research into my practice.
WEEK 3:
During week 3, I achieved the weekly objectives by appraising systematic reviews for translation science. I learned how to critically evaluate the quality of systematic reviews, and how to assess the relevance of the findings to practice. I also gained a better understanding of the importance of evidence synthesis and translation science in clinical decision-making and improving patient outcomes. This week’s activities changed my perspective on the role of systematic reviews in practice. I now understand how systematic reviews can provide a comprehensive and unbiased assessment of the available evidence, which can inform clinical guidelines and improve patient care. This skill will improve my effectiveness as a practice scholar by allowing me to critically appraise and integrate systematic reviews into my practice.
WEEK 4:
During week 4, I achieved the weekly objectives by understanding descriptive statistics. I learned how to calculate and interpret measures of central tendency and dispersion, and how to summarize data using tables and graphs. I gained a better understanding of the importance of descriptive statistics in summarizing and communicating research findings. This week’s activities influenced my understanding of statistical analysis by emphasizing the importance of accuracy and precision in data analysis. I can bring this information of statistical analysis to practice by using it to better understand and communicate research findings to patients and colleagues.
WEEK 5:
During week 5, I achieved the weekly objectives by understanding parametric statistics. I learned about the assumptions and applications of parametric tests, including t-tests and ANOVA. I also gained a better understanding of the limitations and alternatives to parametric tests, such as nonparametric tests. This week’s activities influenced my understanding of statistical analysis by emphasizing the importance of selecting the appropriate statistical test based on the research question and data characteristics. I will set a goal to apply this knowledge to my practice by using it to design and analyze research studies that address clinically relevant questions.
WEEK 6:
During week 6, I achieved the weekly objectives by synthesizing literature relevant to practice problems. I learned how to search for and evaluate the quality of literature related to clinical practice questions. I also gained a better understanding of the importance of evidence synthesis and translation science in clinical decision-making and improving patient outcomes. The most rewarding learning experience I had this week was applying evidence synthesis skills to a practice problem and developing a PICOT/PICoT question. I could amplify the effectiveness of my skill in evidence synthesis and translation
