Overweight and obesity | Nursing homework help
The article entitled “Overweight and Obesity Statistics” published by the USDHHS provides a brief overview of the prevalence of overweight and obesity in the United States. It discusses the health risks associated with being overweight or obese, as well as the economic costs to individuals, families, and society. The article highlights the need for individuals to adopt healthy eating habits and engage in regular physical activity to prevent and manage overweight and obesity.
Two things I learned from this article are that more than two-thirds of adults in the United States are overweight or obese, and that the prevalence of overweight and obesity has been steadily increasing over the past few decades. I also learned that being overweight or obese can increase the risk of many health problems, including heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and some types of cancer.
After reading this article, I would tell someone who eats a poor diet and has some of the risk factors for overweight and obesity that it’s important to make changes to their diet and lifestyle to prevent these health problems. I would encourage them to eat more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean meats, and to engage in regular physical activity. Cultural differences can definitely contribute to what foods are habitually eaten, but it’s important to make an effort to choose healthy foods and engage in physical activity regardless of cultural background.
In my opinion, fast food and junk food items are linked to diseases because they tend to be high in calories, unhealthy fats, and added sugars, while low in important nutrients like vitamins, minerals, and fiber. These foods can compromise your nutritional status and lead to weight gain, which in turn can increase the risk of many health problems. There are various ways to measure if junk foods may be negatively affecting your health, such as tracking your daily intake of calories, fats, and sugars, or monitoring your weight and other health indicators over time.
