Soc313 – week 2 discussion
Firstly, the cost of purchasing and maintaining DME can be quite expensive since most insurance plans don’t cover these types of devices as much as regular healthcare treatments for instance. This makes it difficult for those who may not be able to afford such payments having limited options when choosing which products best suit their needs without compromising quality or safety.
Secondarily, accessibility issues are also common when using DME since many public spaces may not already be equipped with features required by disabled individuals making movement around certain areas difficult or sometimes even impossible depending on severity of disability being faced. To help alleviate this problem organisations like The Accessible Technology Coalition (ATC) work towards promoting awareness about the importance of designating easily accessible locations for those using assistive devices so they can more easily integrate into mainstream society without feeling excluded from participating in activities like everyone else does.
Therefore, despite all the amazing benefits provided by DME there still exists clear challenges that need addressing before disabled persons can experience complete freedom within their daily lives but by working together we can strive towards creating environments where everyone has equal rights regardless of whether they require special assistance to do so or not.
