The term ‘suffering’ may be misleading because it implies a negative connotation that is not necessarily reflective of the true meaning of dukkha. In Buddhism, the term refers to something more profound than simply physical suffering or emotional distress as it also includes all other forms of dissatisfaction in life such as boredom, restlessness and feelings of dissatisfaction or emptiness.
Furthermore, while we can experience different types of suffering each with its own unique qualities, these are transitory and ultimately unimportant compared to the ultimate goal which is liberation from suffering through enlightenment. Thus, instead of viewing dukkha as something negative it should be seen as an opportunity for growth and spiritual development which can lead to greater understanding and appreciation of life.
