Research Inquiry: How can mental health services programs be improved to better support college students?

Search Strategy: To answer this research inquiry, I performed a search using terms related to the clinical area of interest, such as “college student mental health” and “mental health services program in higher education”. The articles retrieved from this search were analyzed to compare the different research methodologies employed in order to understand which methods would be most appropriate for addressing my research inquiry.

Analysis of Research Methodologies: Of the articles retrieved from my initial search query, qualitative studies were the most commonly used methodology, with many studies focusing on interviews or surveys with college students who had experienced a variety of mental health issues. Other researchers utilized quantitative study designs that sought to measure attitudes toward existing mental health service programs or analyze data collected by universities about student experiences with these services. From this analysis it appears that both qualitative and quantitative approaches can provide valuable insights into how mental health service programs can be strengthened and modified in order to best meet the needs of college students.
