Pathophysiology is the study of changes in body functions that occur due to disease or injury. It involves understanding how disease affects normal physiological processes, as well as exploring associated alterations and the patient’s adaptive responses to these modifications.

When a person becomes ill their body goes through changes known as pathophysiological alterations. These can involve any number of processes, such as inflammation and infection, metabolic disturbances or damage to organs or tissues. Pathophysiological alterations cause disruptions to normal functioning of organs and systems within the body which may lead to further complications such as tissue damage and organ failure. In response, the body will attempt to adapt by altering hormone levels, blood pressure and other vital parameters in an attempt to maintain balance. This process is called homeostasis.

In addition, when a person has a disease they often experience symptoms related to their altered physiology which can be very uncomfortable or even life-threatening. For example, someone with heart failure might experience fatigue due to decreased cardiac output while someone with diabetes might experience intense thirst due to increased glucose levels in their bloodstream. The patient must then adopt adaptive behaviors in order for them cope with these challenging conditions – this may include adjusting their diet habits if they have diabetes or incorporating regular exercise into their lifestyle if they have heart failure.

In summary, when patients become ill changes occur on a pathophysiological level that affect numerous bodily functions leading ultimately lead them experiencing uncomfortable symptoms and having difficulty performing daily tasks successfully. As a result of this challenge the patient must adjust his/her behavior in order for them adapt given these circumstances; this is referred to as adaptation which helps restore homeostasis which hopefully leads towards positive recovery outcomes.
