Patient education project tool | informatic | Herzing University–Minneapolis
My tool is an online patient education module focused on understanding and managing chronic pain. The purpose of the module is to provide patients with the knowledge and skills they need to manage their own chronic pain, as well as strategies for communicating effectively with healthcare providers.
To create this module, I used a combination of applications including HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript and Adobe Flash. This combination allowed me to create an engaging user interface that would be accessible on multiple devices (mobile phones, tablets, laptops, etc.). Additionally, these applications allowed me to insert multimedia components such as videos and interactive activities which help reinforce key concepts presented in the module.
The effectiveness of this patient education tool has been demonstrated through research that shows improved patient outcomes when using web-based educational tools in comparison to traditional methods such as paper handouts or one-on-one sessions with healthcare providers. Additionally, findings from a study conducted by the American Pain Society showed that providing access to web-based information about chronic pain lead to better patient satisfaction scores regarding knowledge of their condition and treatment options.
