Child with gastroenteritis and dehydration circulation assessment
Based on the circulation assessment, it is likely that findings could include elevated blood pressure, decreased peripheral pulses, edema and swelling of the lower extremities, and a decrease in tissue perfusion. These symptoms can all be indicative of a circulatory disorder such as chronic venous insufficiency (CVI). CVI occurs when veins within the leg become weakened or damaged due to age-related changes in vein structure and function. When this happens, blood flow from the legs is impaired and can lead to pooling of fluid in various areas such as the feet or ankles. This reduces tissue perfusion which can result in an increase in blood pressure due to increased resistance in vasculature. Additionally, decreased sensations may be felt by patients due to nerve damage resulting from long-term accumulation of fluids in these areas.
