Bacterial infections are caused when bacteria invades and reproduces within the body, leading to symptoms such as fever, fatigue, or vomiting. In contrast, bacterial intoxication occurs when a person ingests preformed toxins produced by certain types of bacteria; this can result in food poisoning or other gastrointestinal issues such as diarrhea and abdominal pain. Additionally, bacterial infections require medical treatment with antibiotics in order to fight off the invading organisms whereas intoxication does not generally need any form of medication unless it is severe; instead it is usually treated through rest and hydration. Ultimately, distinguishing between these two conditions is important for proper diagnosis and treatment; failure to do so could lead to unnecessary suffering or even death in extreme cases.
