Colleagues response week 1 | NURS 6660 – Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Role I: Child and Adolescent | Walden University
One of my colleagues discussed a patient who was diagnosed with anxiety, noting that their symptoms seemed to coincide with stress from work. In addition to the feeling of being overwhelmed, I suggested that other factors such as environmental stressors or family dynamics could be playing a role in the patient’s anxious feelings and recommended asking more questions about these topics during next visit.
Another colleague discussed a patient who had recently been diagnosed with depression and outlined possible causes for his condition such as genetic predisposition or recent life changes. While those are certainly valid contributors to this diagnosis, I suggested exploring outside factors such as substance use which can also increase chances of developing depression. Furthermore, I proposed inquiring about any potential support systems he may have and whether they have been helpful in alleviating depressive symptoms while providing an outlet for emotional distress.
