There are several different methods of evaluating school programs, which depend on the particular objectives being pursued and the type of data being collected. The most common include classroom observation, focus groups or interviews with students or teachers, surveys, tests and assessments to measure student learning outcomes, analysis of administrative data such as attendance rates and disciplinary actions taken against students, alumni tracking through college completion rates or gainful employment after graduation; and external reviews by experts in the field.

Regardless of method chosen it is important that they be designed to gather comprehensive information while remaining unbiased – this requires careful consideration when formulating questions/topics for discussion as well as selecting qualified personnel who can interpret results objectively. It is also important that evaluation activities occur regularly so that any changes needed to improve program effectiveness can be identified early on and acted upon quickly. Ultimately these tools help administrators make decisions about what works best for their schools so that resources can be allocated accordingly.
