Nurs 4220 walden university practice experience: applying measurement
The measures identified from the interviews included knowledge of safety protocols, safe handling and disposal of hazardous materials, and communication between staff regarding patient care. Challenges to obtaining the data discussed included a lack of clear definitions or standards for the quality indicator being measured, as well as a lack of resources and personnel available to collect the required data. A summary of how this quality indicator is measured in literature includes surveys distributed to staff members about their compliance with safety protocols; direct observation of staff during interactions with patients; implementation of monitoring systems that record safety incidents over time; and review of medical records for evidence related to safety protocols. These measures can be used to gain insight into how effectively an organization is able to ensure patient safety within their healthcare facility.
