Interprofessional communication | Nursing homework help
Identify one example of a communication skill, strategy, and/or factor used by an individual member of the health care team that contributed to effective communication and collaboration.
During the patient conference, the nurse practitioner used active listening skills to understand the patient’s concerns and to elicit information from the other team members. For instance, when the social worker spoke about the patient’s need for housing assistance, the nurse practitioner restated the information and asked follow-up questions to ensure that she understood the social worker’s points clearly.

Identify one example of a barrier to effective communication and collaboration.
One example of a barrier to effective communication and collaboration was the lack of clarity around roles and responsibilities of the health care team members. For example, the occupational therapist appeared to be unsure about her role in the team and did not contribute much during the patient conference.

Identify one way in which communication could have been improved during this patient conference.
One way in which communication could have been improved during this patient conference was to clarify the roles and responsibilities of each team member at the outset of the meeting. This would help to ensure that everyone knew what was expected of them and could contribute to the discussion accordingly.

Where do you see interprofessional collaboration in your practice or school clinical setting? Give an example.
In my school clinical setting, I see interprofessional collaboration between the nursing students and the clinical instructors. For example, during patient care conferences, the nursing students work together with the clinical instructors to develop care plans for their patients. They share information and ideas with each other, and the clinical instructors provide feedback and guidance to help the students improve their critical thinking and decision-making skills.
