Impact health care policy | nsg 505 | Wilkes University
Nursing research has played a critical role in shaping healthcare policy over the years. This is evidenced by numerous studies that have been conducted regarding topics such as nurse staffing levels, patient safety protocols, and best practices for treating certain conditions/diseases which have allowed researchers to develop evidence-based recommendations for improving standards of care within the profession.
For example, many states require certain minimum staffing ratios in hospitals based on findings from research which indicate this can help reduce mortality rates among patients. Additionally, theories such as Florence Nightingale’s environmental theory which proposed better sanitation practices would reduce infection rates and improve overall health outcomes have also played an important part in creating guidelines used by health organizations today. Ultimately, nursing research has had a significant impact on healthcare policies throughout the world; not only does it provide valuable insight into how to best care for patients but it helps ensure that these changes are implemented safely and effectively while promoting greater standardization across all levels of care.
