Civil court and criminal court are two distinct systems that address different types of disputes. Civil courts typically handle cases regarding private disputes between individuals or organizations such as contract negotiations, property damage claims, landlord-tenant issues, etc. The primary purpose of civil proceedings is to award monetary damages to the injured party in order to restore them to their original state prior to the incident; this is done by a jury who assesses compensatory and punitive damages according to the relevant laws. Criminal courts on the other hand deal with allegations involving criminal behavior -these can range from minor offenses like traffic violations all the way up to more serious crimes such as murder or assault. In these cases, punishments may take the form of fines, probation/community service or even incarceration depending on the severity of the offense committed. Additionally, unlike civil proceedings which involve individuals filing lawsuits against each other; criminal proceedings typically involve a prosecuting attorney representing society in general seeking justice against an accused individual(s). Ultimately, both civil and criminal courts serve an important function within our legal system but they do so in very different ways based on specific sets of laws tailored for each situation
