My workplace is generally civil. We have a code of conduct that we all must adhere to, which includes respecting each other’s opinions and treating each other with respect and courtesy. There is also an environment of trust and understanding between colleagues so that even if there is disagreement on certain issues, it can be handled in a respectful manner. We also have regular training sessions to ensure everyone understands proper etiquette and procedures when handling delicate or potentially volatile situations.

However, I have experienced incivility in the workplace before. A few months ago, one colleague became frustrated with another after their ideas were dismissed by the team leader without explanation. The colleague reacted aggressively and started shouting at the other person, accusing them of not doing their job properly. This was immediately addressed by our team leader who explained why their idea may not have been suitable for this particular situation while also addressing the inappropriate behavior with clear expectations to maintain a respectful environment going forward.
