Policy and regulation supporting informatics and technology
The policy or regulation I selected is the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). This policy was created to protect patient privacy and ensure that healthcare organizations only access, use, and disclose information as necessary.
At a system level, HIPAA has encouraged healthcare providers to deploy technologies such as electronic health records (EHRs) and other digital tools for faster communication which has resulted in improved care delivery. Moreover, it has made it easier for doctors to collaborate across different geographic locations by allowing them to securely share data with one another without compromising patient confidentiality.
HIPAA also provides incentives for providers who are willing to adopt new technologies such as telemedicine services; this ensures that patients who do not have easy access to medical care can still receive quality care from their physicians regardless of location. Furthermore, the implementation of regulations like HIPAA makes it easier for health organizations to maintain compliance with privacy laws – which is essential for protecting patient data from unauthorized access or misuse.
