Assignment 06: clinical dilemma | HA3300D-Healthcare Policy and Ethics | National American University
Technology is playing an increasingly important role in healthcare, with more and more medical tools, procedures, and practices relying on technology to make them more effective. With this increased reliance on technology comes a number of ethical issues that healthcare administrators must face. For example, the use of telemedicine has become increasingly popular as it allows doctors to diagnose patients without requiring their physical presence in the office.
This raises concerns about patient privacy as data could be shared or used inappropriately if proper protocols are not followed. Another issue is the potential for discrimination based on one’s ability or inability to access certain technologies; low-income patients may not have access to certain devices or software programs which can put them at a disadvantage when seeking care.
Finally, technological advances can lead to decisions being made faster than ever before and mistakes can be hard to detect; this raises questions regarding the accuracy of diagnoses since there is less time for physicians and other healthcare staff to review each decision thoroughly. Healthcare administrators must ensure that these ethical issues are addressed properly so that all individuals receive equitable care regardless of their economic background or level of technological sophistication.
