Assignment 1: practicum – week 8 journal entry | NURS 6650 – Psychotherapy With Groups and Families | Walden University
This makes CBT an effective treatment for the members of this group who are struggling with mental health issues such as depression and anxiety. The process allows them to challenge negative thought patterns that may contribute to their distress by providing alternative ways of thinking about situations and events in life. Additionally, it can help them learn how to self-regulate their feelings which will ultimately result in healthier coping skills when faced with stressful situations or other triggers that can lead to unhealthy thoughts or behaviors.
Additionally, since this group consists mostly of people who have experienced some sort of trauma, CBT may also be beneficial as it has been shown to be successful in mitigating PTSD symptoms such as intrusive memories or nightmares. This type of therapy helps individuals learn more adaptive ways of responding to the traumatic event(s) they’ve experienced by having them focus on changing the way they think about themselves and the world around them instead of suppressing uncomfortable thoughts or emotions associated with those experiences.
Furthermore, because this particular group consists primarily of older adults who may not otherwise seek out traditional forms of mental health services due to stigma related issues or lack access due its cost/availability factors; CBT might provide more accessible options for them in terms getting support without having leave home due its current online delivery methods during pandemic times.
