Discussion topic/ reflect on the analysis of the sin of suicide
I agree that suicide is a sin and euthanasia should not be considered as an acceptable practice. The Bible describes suicide as a rejection of God’s ultimate sovereignty over life, which is why it is seen as a violation of God’s commandments. Furthermore, it goes against our fundamental understanding of the sanctity of life and implies that one person has the right to make decisions about ending another person’s life. This denies the importance of letting God have control over the timing and purpose for each individual’s death.
Euthanasia can be interpreted in various ways, such as “mercy killing,” but this implies that we get to decide when someone else’s suffering should end, rather than leaving that decision up to God. It also suggests that humans possess godlike abilities to determine what course another person’s life should take, which impinges on divine authority over human destiny. Thus, I agree with the conclusion from the topic readings – suicide and euthanasia are both sins according to Christian belief systems because they deny God his rightful authority over human lives.
